John Cruise Wilkins
John Cruise Wilkins famous as the ‘Treasure Man’ offers guided tours at the famous Bel Ombre treasure site (leased by his family) of the 18th century where a French pirate Olivier Le Vasseur known as La Buse buried a fabulous treasure. Although many have tried – and failed – to locate the bounty, two men have devoted their lives to the quest. Reginald Herbert Cruise-Wilkins, known locally on the Seychelles island of Mahé as the ‘Treasure Man’, hunted for the fortune for 27 years until his death in 1977. His son John inherited both the nickname and the quest. For John, as for his father, the search has become his life. This is the true story of two men’s life-long search. John has been searching for the biggest treasure in pirate history for more than 50 years of his life already! Even after all these years of searching, he is still the storybook boy hero armed with his backpack and treasure map, trying to piece together the puzzle. He is a story of hope and of never giving up, despite the odds.
